Vermont For Professionals is a piano retreat. It’s a week of unlimited practicing. Work on your solo repertoire or come as a duo/chamber ensemble and rehearse. Pianists practice at any hour and have exclusive use of a different piano studio each day. Piano studios are free-standing, with no shared walls – you will not hear others, and they will not hear you. Each studio has two grand pianos, and brands include Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Baldwin, among others.
The structured parts of the day are three meals and a repertoire class called Works In Progress. True to its name, each participant plays a “work in progress” every day. Class is held in the performance space, which houses a Steinway D and a Baldwin Concert Grand. Learning happens organically, not from one master teacher but from a group of peers who are at once both students and teachers.
The week concludes with three recitals presented to the local community. Participants are warmly encouraged to perform in two of the three recitals. Repertoire is thoughtfully prepared for recital presentation, but memorization is not required.
